Tuesdays
Think dancing looks fun, but you’re not sure how people actually start? Worried you’ll trip over your own feet or not know what to do with your hands? You’re in the right place. Dance 101 is a beginner-friendly introduction to partner dancing—no experience required, no partner necessary, and no judgment allowed. It’s the perfect first step into all partner dances at DownStreet.
No previous classwork is necessary.
Wear comfortable clothing and comfortable, flat shoes that don't grip the floor. (or socks).
A block of four classes costs $30.
The four week block will start on Tuesday February 3rd.
Laura has been dancing, teaching, and performing West Coast Swing, Hustle, Salsa, and many more for a little more than a decade. When she teaches, her emphasis is on creating a dance class that doesn't have any age, size, mobility, or enthusiasm limits!
With zero childhood dancing other than "rockin' out" to the Beatles in her living room when she was 3, Laura brings the ability to teach students to be kind to themselves when learning new dances or simply how to dance for the first time.
She started learning partner dances in her 30s and keenly remembers the awkward stage of no proprioception or coordination because it was pretty much last Tuesday.

Belly Dance, Cairo Style.
"Join our belly dance class and discover the joy of movement while improving coordination and posture. You’ll learn the basics of belly dance with a solid foundation in technique, helping you release stress and feel the freedom of your body through graceful, energizing new moves, while nurturing the mind–body connection that leaves you feeling balanced and revitalized."
My goal is to share and broadcast my love for dance thorough my experience to students. Teacher Erika's Bellydance training consists of seminars, workshops and private classes taken with Egyptian, Iraqi, and Iranian teachers. She was offered to teach classes for dance teachers and students in Egypt within the "Sagat" Festival in El Cairo, Egypt. Receiving an acknowledgment from the "Cioff" (The Egyptian Council of Folklore, Arts, Groups and Festival). Graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature in Mexico City in Contemporary Dance.

This class will pay homage to a variety of burlesque styles and tricks of the trade. Learn classic moves, how to tell a story through movement, improve on burlesque skills, and build confidence in yourself as a performer. Each block will be 6 classes focused on a particular element of burlesque, followed by a special showcase class (free to students participating in the block and closed to the public) to perform anything they've been working on. This class is a safe space to explore yourself as a sexual, sensual being in a fun and tantalizing way while building body positivity and self expression.
This class is catered to all levels, from beginners to the seasoned dancer.
Bring a brimmed hat, gloves, a button up/zip up shirt or vest.
With over 30 years of dance experience, including jazz, modern, ballet and lyrical, Marieve is "poised" to delve back into the world of burlesque. She was the house choreographer for Charlottetown Burlesque from 2016-2018, and has performed in Toronto and on PEI in this style over the last 13 years. Burlesque allows you to explore your desires, unleash your fetishes, poke fun at society, and expound your creativity. It is as much about the story telling and acting as it is about dance, and she hopes to bring an appreciation to her students with this informed class.
